Kebbi State is a transnational boundary State with Alibori department of Benin Republic in the West, Dosso and Zinder regions of the Republic of Niger to the North-West.

Kebbi State of formed in 1991 from Sokoto State.

The Kainji Dam reservoir is partly in Kebbi State.

Birnin-Kebbi is the capital of Kebbi State.

Hausa and Fulani are languages spoken in Kebbi State among other languages.

The fortified or wall city of Surame famous in between the 13th/17th century for the walled city and as capital of an Hausa rulership. The town of Surame is near Argungu and the city of Argungu is a historic commercial centre of strategic importance for the Empire of Mali among other Kingdoms along the floodplains of the Sokoto/Kebbi River and the River Niger.

The Emirate of Kebbi and Birnin-Kebbi were one of the seven(7) Hausa States.

Old Kebbi, Zuru and Yauri were captured in the Islamic conquest of Usman Dan Fodio and a new Emirate was established in Gwandu along with by Abdullahi Dan Fodio.
