Taraba State derives its name from the River Taraba. Jalingo is the capital of Taraba State and is populated by Jukun, Mumuye, Wurkun, Fulani peoples among other tribes.

Till 1991, Taraba state was part of Gongola and previously in the Benue-Plateau State of North-East Nigeria.

Taraba State is a transnational border State with some the border territories claimed by both The Republic of Cameroun and the seceding Federal Republic of Ambazonia.

Jalingo is the capital city of Taraba State ans is populated by Jukun, Mumuye, Wurkun, Fulani peoples among many who are part of old Kwararafa Kingdom and Wukari Federation straddling the Benue-Plateau and parts of North West Cameroun.
